Homemade Protein Bars

If you have the time why not make your very own homemade protein bars. At least you’ll know exactly what goes into them.

There are several advantages of homemade protein bars compared to buying them at a store or online.

First of all, you know exactly what ingredients go into the recipe. No surprises of any hidden fats or trans fats.

You can also tailor your recipe to the level of protein you need, depending on what training and workouts you are doing.

It is much cheaper to make your own protein bars compared to store prices.

The only downside I can see from producing your own protein snacks is the time and effort needed to make them.

I personally used to make my own protein bars and they went down a treat! But after a while it became far too time consuming and I ended up buying them online.

If you have the time or just want to experiment a little by making your own protein bars, there are tons of free recipes online you can use. Just type in homemade protein bars into Google and you’ll have more recipes than you know what to do with!

In the mean time, here are a few good ones I found to get you going..

2 egg whites
½ teaspoon super-strength chocolate flavoring

Combine all dry ingredients in blender — Process on high speed 2 minutes. In a bowl, beat eggs, flavorings, and peanut butter. Add the dry ingredients to the egg mixture. With an electric mixer, slowly add the water until dough becomes a “gooey play-dough” consistency. Pour batter in lined pan, spreading, or pressing dough to an even thickness.

Bake for about 15 minutes. Remove from pan and allow to cool slightly. Remove wax paper and allow to cool completely. Cut into 8 bars. Delicious with low-carb ice cream.

We all know that getting the right amount or protein is essential to building muscle. The problem is that the body can only absorb so much protein each hour, so we can’t just have one huge protein source each day. We need a constant stream of protein throughout the day to feed our muscles the “building blocks” that they need to properly recover after a workout.
